QGS rod glow plugs
QGS rod glow plugs
QGS stands for Quick Glow System. There are two different types of QGS glow plugs:
QGS types with one heating coil are designed for an extremely high current flow, which is regulated by a special control device.
QGS types with heating and control coils automatically minimise the current flow to a certain degree, because the electrical resistance of the control coil increases as the temperature increases. This protects the heating coil of the glow plug from possibly overheating. For all QGS types the following applies: they heat up very quickly and reach temperatures around 900 °C within 6-10 seconds.
AQGS rod glow plugs
AQGS stands for "Advanced Quick Glow System". This enhancement of the QGS types also has one heating coil and one control coil.
Its heating coil heats up extremely quickly. Since the glow tube of the AQGS glow plug is significantly thinner, only 3.5 mm, than the glow tube of conventional metal rod glow plugs, this type reaches 1,000 °C in only 2 seconds and thus ensures an especially reliable self-ignition of the diesel mixture. Emissions during the warm-up phase are already minimised before reaching the optimal operating temperature of the engine.
